Random Act of Kindness BLITZ!

A smile. An encouraging word. A thoughtful gesture. Each day people interact with us, help, and make our day a bit brighter and full. This is especially true in the Writing Community

Take a second to think about writers you know, like the critique partner who works with you to improve your manuscript. The writing friend who listens, supports and keeps you strong when times are tough. The author who generously offers council, advice and inspiration when asked.

So many people take the time to make us feel special, don't they? They comment on our blogs, re-tweet our posts, chat with us on forums and wish us Happy Birthday on Facebook.

Kindness ROCKS!

To commemorate the release of their book The Emotion Thesaurus, Becca and Angela at The Bookshelf Muse are hosting a TITANIC Random Act Of Kindness BLITZ. And because I think KINDNESS is contagious, I'm participating too!

My RAOK is to offer one amazingly awesome commenter a copy of my absolute favorite writing Bible, Plot and Structure, by James Scott Bell. No, I don't collect royalties on his book, even though it may seem like it. His book helped me THAT much.

My kids will choose a winner on Friday, May 18th. If the winner already has this book, then they have the opportunity to pay it forward again, and pass it on as their RAOK.

All you have to do is leave a comment. And this is not a requirement, but if you'd like to give a special shout out to someone who's made a difference in your writing life, please do so!

Do you know someone special that you'd like to randomly acknowledge? Don't be shy--come join us and celebrate! Send them an email, give them a shout out, or show your appreciation in another way. Kindness makes the world go round. :)

Becca and Angela have a special RAOK gift waiting for you as well, so hop on over to The Bookshelf Muse to pick it up.

Have you ever participated in or been the recipient of a Random Act Of Kindness? Let me know in the comments!

(By the way, aren't Angela and Becca amazing? I had a peek at their Emotion Thesaurus, and it ROCKS!)

  4. WOW! What a giving community we belong to. I think my RAOK goes to Ruth Walker and Gwynn Scheltema of Writescape (www.writescape.ca). I've learned so much from these generous and talented ladies. And a shout-out to my daughter Anne MacLachlan, best first reader EVER.

  7. As part of The Kindness Project, I blogged last week about my most recent brush with kindness. I had a really rough week which SO many people helped me through. So, yes, kindness is still out there! I'd love the book. I don't own it but have heard great things!

  11. I've heard lots of great things about that book.

Hasn't it been fun seeing all the different ways writers are saying thank you today? I tried to mention lots of peeps on my post, but I'm sure I forgot lots of others. *sigh*

  14. Since my copy of P & S and I are joined at the hip, you can skip my entry. What a perfect RAOK for another writer. Who has made a difference in my writing life - that's an easy one - YOU and Lisa most of all - no wizard could conjure better critiques partners.

  17. Don't include me in the drawing, either; I just wanted to say thanks for spreading the love! I'm embarrassed to admit that I've never read Plot & Structure. *hides* Will rectify that immediately.

  20. This is awesome. I love ROAK. So... my random act of kindness was to buy a flight attendant a pig splat ball for her 5-year-old nephew. It wasn't much...but given with love. And if you saw it, you would say... definitely random.

  21. Great RAOK, Julie. No need to put my name in, though--I already have JSB's Plot and Structure. Love, love, love this book.

  22. Hi Julie! Wanted to let you know I've given you an award on my blog. It's the best kind of award, too. It comes with nothing but my appreciation attached. :) Hope life is great on your end of the Web.

  24. I just ordered the book because I have repeatedly heard from you and Ms. Weiland how wonderful this book has been for you both. What a great RAOK idea! I also stopped to thank you for many helpful posts.

  25. Julie & everyone, thank you for the kind words. I am thrilled so many have taken on RAOK and kept it going. This has been a great week, and I hope it's given people a boost to keep at it. This is a long road, and not an easy one. But it is good to know we're walking it together, isn't it?
