Use It or Lose It #IWSG

Welcome, Insecure Writers! If you aren't a member yet, please do yourself a favor and sign up here.

After a summer of not writing, I was so glad to get back in the saddle again. I've sent my revision off to my editor, and I await her final notes.

All summer I kept reminding myself of the "use it or lose it" principle--that writing is like a muscle that can atrophy if not used. And even though I feared jumping back in, I survived the leap. No injuries occurred. *checks mirror for bruises*

While life swirls around me at a dizzying, uncontrollable pace, I continue to put one word after the next, creating something only I can create.

I hope you're doing the same...

  1. I take breaks in between projects and always worry I won't be able to start back up again. Sometimes I think I won't and breath a sigh of relief. Then an idea or opportunity hits and I start writing again.
I really am trying to quit but it's just not working...

  3. I haven't written in quite some time and I feel like it only gets harder the longer I wait. Glad you were able to get back into writing! Hopefully I will soon.

  4. Breaks can be good to refresh your writing, so don't feel bad. Glad you got back into it, though.

  5. Even our writing muscle needs a vacation. Glad to hear getting back into it wasn't too hard.

  6. Sometimes we need to take a break to keep the muscles fresh. Even athletes need to take breaks to let their muscles heal and renew. Glad you're back into the writing, though.

  7. I always worry when I haven't written anything new for a while. I'm afraid I'll lose it and never start again.

  9. When I've been out of the "zone" all those little doubt demons creep back in, but once I duct tape my self back in my writer's chair the wheels do start turning. Can't wait for your new story to come into the world.

  10. It's part of being a writer that you think you'll lose it after every project. Great that you're writing, though!

  11. Summer is hard as far as writing goes. I'm always more productive in the fall. Reading all these grand IWSG posts has me all fired up and ready to go.

  13. So glad you survived the leap. I'm just tossing my other leg over the lip on the ledge now. I, too, took the summer to spend with family, etc.... It's taken me a little longer to get my groove back, but it's coming.
