Our family is busy preparing for a camping trip over the coming holiday weekend. I'm guilty of tackling my mundane tasks without focusing on the "why" of this four-day weekend.
As we celebrate Veteran's Day this Thursday, November 11th, it's a good time to remember and appreciate those who volunteer to protect us.
Do you have a friend or family member who's a veteran or who's currently serving? I'd love to hear their story.
In the meantime, if you're feeling patriotic, check out these powerful videos:
"I Just Came Back From A War" by Darryl Worley
Courtesy of Jemi Fraser, a group of Canadian country artists sing "Standing Tall and True"
In the "Always makes me cry" category, Faith Hill sings our national anthem
oh, I cry at the national anthem every time, too. There's just so many hopes and dreams and ... all of it wrapped up in that song and the belief of what this country can do for people. I wish Americans would remember what we stand for and stop the infighting and bickering. We're supposed to be working together *despite* our differences to find compromises that make us stronger...
ReplyDeletehey! Sorry for the soapbox. I'd better get back to ReviseMo... :D <3
Have fun camping! Thank you so much for the fantastic tribute. My dad was in Vietnam. He sent pictures back to my mom while he was over there and I made an album of them. On the opening page I wrote a bit about honoring veterans. Dad teared up when he read it and looked at the album.
ReplyDeleteHave fun camping!
ReplyDeleteAt first I thought this was a mistake--camping in November?? (I live in Michigan. Enough said.) But then I remembered not everyone faces freezing temps this time of year! Have a great time!!
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful camping trip.
ReplyDeleteThanks for this post, Julie. Very moving.
ReplyDeleteI give thanks to my grandpa for teaching me to feel patriotic (WWII). Plus, I have a big handsome cousin who spent time in Iraq. Have you visited MommyJ's blog? She has a regular post called Servicemen Sunday (the button/link is on my sidebar) in which she honors current soldiers.
ReplyDeleteHave a great week - especially your camping trip. :)
I'm with Jill - the camping in November completely threw me off!
ReplyDeleteFaith Hill has such a glorious voice and this rendition is beautiful!! I hadn't heard the first one before - it's powerful too.
Thanks for the shout out. Enjoy the camping!
I didn't even think about the camping thing! We live in So Cal, and we'll be riding ATV's out in the desert. It'll be pretty warm, actually.
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by.
